Psalm of A Son- Kendrick Williams

By: Kendrick T. Williams

I imagined being loved.

It feels like guidance through new paths, rocky roads, highways and unknown streets with no maps.

But I was never without direction. No, never without it.

I imagined being loved.

Your presence was always felt

I have never been  alone

Left to my own devices

Even your name was enough to tame my wild adolescent mind

(Because what a belt won’t do , hearing ,“wait til he gets home” will)

I’ve always looked up to you

You were always in my home

You were always there

I wanted so much to be like you

From the way you spoke, the calm bass in your voice carried and it made me feel secure.

I wanted to imitate it and play it back in surround sound every time i saw you.

….and when I imagined being loved

I imagined you

A father.

My Father

You express love through the works of your hands and I know love because of you.

“There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.”

Deuteronomy 1:31
